Hurraw Vegan Lip Balm

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find vegan lip balm? The vast majority have bee products while the remaining few that don’t have other animal oils like lanolin. I hadn’t noticed this in a long time since I don’t use lip balm in the first place. But recently, I took my girlfriend to Whole Foods pretty certain someone there would have something suitable for vegans. There was an end cap entirely devoted to lip balms and we found nothing.

After expressing my frustration on Twitter, a friend sent me the link to Hurraw vegan lip balm and I was very impressed. I contacted the company regarding my adding their product info to Vegan.FM, and they sent me some samples to try out.

Normally what happens with a lot of products is you have to settle for one or only a few bland versions of whatever for which they are trying to create an alternative.

For instance, when vegan cheeses first came on the scene, you only got cheddar or mozzarella. Only recently have companies started to venture out into other familiar flavors than the generic.

With Hurraw, you don’t buy a stick of petroleum. Oh no, Hurraw comes in Green Tea, Chai Spice, Coffee Bean, Black Cherry, Cinnamon, Vanilla Bean, Coconut, Grapefruit, Orange, Mint, Almond, Licorice, Lime, Root beer, Chocolate, and Lemon.

While I do like most of those flavors (I have never understood why anyone would like the taste of licorice), I was concerned these might have more of an appeal of candy and less of an appeal as a lip balm. For instance, I wouldn’t want one of these flavors mixing with something I’m already eating or drinking.

The scents and flavors are pleasant, but they’re subtle. I am happy to report Hurraw is not like spreading a stick of hard candy on your lips. It really is lipbalm, it feels right, and appears to protect your lips at least as well as any beeswaxy balm.

A lot of the vegan lip balms I had researched were running at about $4 and up. Add to that the shipping if you are buying online. Currently, Hurraw sells for about $3.75 on their website. I highly recommend Hurraw especially for the fact I don’t have to be burdened with checking *which* of their products are vegan. They are a vegan company and carry the certified vegan logo.
