Make Veganism your New Years’ Resolution
I know your kind. You’re not one of those smart alecks asking me why, if we aren’t supposed to eat animals, they are made of meat. You get it. It doesn’t make sense that we use animals for food, clothing, or entertainment.
Yet, you’ve been holding back from actually going vegan until “someday,” a date that has no actual place on your calendar. You have the comfort of minimally acknowledging veganism is something you ought to do. I respect that, but let’s get serious.
The nonhumans we use in so many way have an extraordinary sense of sentience. That is, like your dog or cat, they feel. They have personalities, hopes, preferences. Yet they hold no rights as objects of property.
We know animal agriculture has devastating implications on groundwater and air pollution. Most of the food contamination scares we hear about from time to time are caused by animal agriculture. Plus, the majority of plant food grown in the world does not end up on our plates, but is cycled through years of animal development instead.
Consider this: you wouldn’t consider yourself someone who would hurt an animal just for your amusement, so why go on continuing to consume animal products? A vegan diet is easier than you think. You may just need an extra push, perhaps a few recipes?
Here are some resources you may find very useful in your transition to veganism for the new year.
